Detachment of Coating

Detachment of Coating

The detachment of coating is a paint defect that occurs during the ageing of the film of a paint or coating. This problem is characterized by the total loss of adhesion of the coating to the application support, usually in large areas.

CAUSES: Poor preparation of the surface to be painted. Surface contaminated with grease, loose particles, dust, etc., after cleaning the surface or between coats of paint. Paint job done with a high moisture content in the air or on a surface with humidity. Application of incompatible products. Drying times between coats of paint were not observed. Surface too smooth, with low roughness.

TREATMENT: Remove all paint and/or coating from non-adherent areas and reapply the paint. Check that the surface to be painted is perfectly clean and free from contamination. Do not paint in conditions of excessive humidity, either in the air or on the surface to be painted. Only apply paint systems consisting of compatible products. Always respect drying times between coats of paint. If the surface to be painted is too smooth (low roughness), apply a suitable primer in advance to ensure adherence before the final finishing paint.
