Craters

Craters

A crater is a paint defect occurring during the formation of the film of the applied paint or a coating characterized by the appearance of small, temporary or permanent depressions caused by the presence of contaminants on the basis of application or incorrect drying of the paint.

CAUSES: Contamination with water and/or oil in the air atomizing spray gun. Very hot substrate. Very high application pressure. Splashes of water on fresh paint. Contaminated surface.

TREATMENT: If the phenomenon is specific, you should sand and reapply the system. On the other hand, if this is a generalized issue, you should remove all the coating, and then properly prepare the surface paying special attention to cleaning it.
