Orange Peel

Orange Peel

Orange peel is a paint defect that occurs during the formation of the film of the paint, characterized for presenting an appearance similar to that of an orange peel. This paint defect occurs mainly in spray gun applications.

CAUSES: Insufficient paint dilution. Use of a diluent with a very fast evaporation (highly volatile). The distance from the spray gun to the painted surface was too close, or the air pressure of the spray gun was too low. The solvent used in the paint dilution has a relatively high moisture content.

TREATMENT: Strip or sand the entire surface and repaint. Thoroughly dilute the paint with a suitable solvent, adjust the air pressure of the spray gun and paint from a suitable distance.
