Cracking
Paint defect which occurs during the ageing of the film of the paint or a paint coating, characterized by the occurrence of relatively deep cracks.Cracks can have different designations depending on its size and can be identified as:
- Micro-cracks: when the width is less than 0.2 mm
- Fissures: when the cracks vary between 0.2 and 2mm
- Cracks or crevices: when the width is greater than 2 mm.
CAUSES: Excessive paint dilution. Use of unsuitable solvents. Application of a very thick paint layer. Application of the paint at very cold temperatures or with very high humidity levels.
TREATMENT: If the paint is still wet, pass the roller back evenly. If the paint is already dry, sand the affected surface and paint again. Dilute the paint and use only the diluent indicated by the paint manufacturer. The paint must be applied in thin layers and the drying times between coats of paint must be respected. Do not apply the paint on days that are: very cold, very hot, very windy, very rainy or in days with too much humidity in the air.
