How to paint exteriors

When the months that provide the best weather arrive, usually months of vacation for most of us, it's the time of year that many people take to paint the interior and exterior of their homes.

For those who have some doubts about what to do and how to do it, here are some general tips. Do not forget that painting should always be planned out carefully and thoroughly, so you don't have to repeat the same job every year. An inaccurate assessment and a poorly executed paint scheme can be as bad as applying a low-quality paint, so try and evaluate these factors, and always ask for several opinions to decide what solution suits you best. Before painting a façade, it's important to carry out a full assessment of the issues that may exist on the structure. This assessment is essential to determine what solutions suits you best.

ASSESSMENTS AND SOLUTIONS

Condition Tests Solutions
Cracked With an x-acto pencil, draw deep horizontal and then vertical lines. Perform this operation when the weather is dry and also on dry walls. If the coating falls even partially, it will be necessay to remove it nd apply an adhesive primer.
Dusty surface Run your hand over the surface. If your hand gets dirty with dust, wash the wall at high pressure (40 bar) before applying an adhesive primer.

Adherence Strike the edges of the craks with a hammer or a mallet. If the surface appears to be hollow, remove the detached parts before applying the appropriate fill. Take into account that you will have to wait 28 days to be able to paint ober it.
Fragility Use a hard brush on the most deteriorated surfaces. If the paint splinter, remove all areas with low adherence, and then apply an adhsive primer.
Stains Some moss and green or red spots may appear in the humid areas of the wall. If you find micro-organisms, mosses or mould, it is necessary to brush the surface and then wash it at high pressure (40 bar) before applying a cleaning solution that will permanently remove them.
