Even though sometimes we don't realize it, colours are part of our daily routine and they play an important role in creating environments. The potential of using colour, combined with quality, innovation and application techniques, makes painting a key element for decoration and can give people a sense of well-being. 

 

The customer's standards for colour matching in the paint industry are often a problem because professionals who engage with customers and even customers themselves are sometimes unaware of the difficulties in reproducing colour specifications. 

 

It is not uncommon for customers to request a paint colour through an outdated catalogue or a piece of painted metal, paper board or even a random piece of paper. The result is that, after painting, the colour does not meet the expectations that the customers had hoped for. To address this issue, colour requests should always be made based on an existing standard, code, paint catalogues of the paint manufacturers themselves, or universal catalogues, such as: RAL, NCS, PANTONE, to avoid customer issues and waste of time and money. 

 

Some factors should also be considered when evaluating and comparing colours, such as gloss, thickness and paint coverage. 

 

 

If the gloss level is found to be different between the two paints which are being compared, the colour may be exactly the same, but the visual aspect may mislead the viewer. Both surfaces must be at the same angle of view and the reflection of the incident light should be eliminated. The reflection may lighten the colour and lead to mistakes. When comparing paints with different levels of gloss, the level of attention should be the same, that is, during the observation, you must look from an angle that eliminates the level of gloss.

 

 

Low levels of thickness of the paint layer may cause errors because they produce thinner results, making the surface colour visible where they have been applied. Very low levels of thickness may also cause changes in the gloss of paints, as well as in their coverage.
